Bolon has redefined what flooring can be. What was once seen as a purely functional surface has transformed into something expressive, innovative, and sustainable, an integral part of design.

Our story began in 1949 in Sweden, when founder Nils-Erik Eklund set out with a simple yet forward-thinking idea: to transform textile waste into woven rag rugs. The rugs soon became a familiar feature in Swedish homes. Our name reflects these origins, combining BO for bomull, the Swedish word for cotton, and LON for nylon: BOLON.
What started as a small family business quickly became a journey driven by curiosity and resourcefulness, long before sustainability became a global priority. Over time, the rag rugs evolved into woven vinyl awning carpets, used in caravan awnings and beneath motorhome canopies.
This sparked a new idea: if the material worked as flooring in these environments, could it also work in commercial interiors? In 1993, second-generation owners Monica and Lars Eklund developed a backing for the woven material, making this new application possible. The innovation marked the beginning of a new direction for Bolon – and would ultimately reshape the company and its industry.

Today, we are led by third-generation sisters Marie and Annica Eklund. With backgrounds in fashion and design, they brought a new perspective that challenged traditional manufacturing practices.
A defining moment came when we discovered that Giorgio Armani was using our material, not only as a backdrop for his catalogue, but also in his private homes, stores worldwide and on his private yacht. It confirmed what we already believed: flooring could be a design statement. From that point on, we embraced a new identity, evolving from a traditional weavery into an international design brand.
Now, a fourth generation, Linn, Liv, and Max, is beginning to take its place, continuing our family story.

Innovation has always been central to who we are. Since 1949, finding new ways to reuse and recycle materials has been at the heart of our development. By combining traditional weaving techniques with modern materials, we have created a product that is both visually distinctive and highly functional.
We were the first to develop woven flooring as a global design product, transforming a technical solution into an architectural surface. Today, our materials allow architects and designers to use flooring as an essential part of spatial storytelling.
As innovators, we never stop pushing boundaries. While recycling and material development remain at our core, we continue to innovate in design. In the near future, we want to take over the entire room. Within two years, we aim to launch woven wall materials, and are experimenting with upholstery furniture using our material.

At Bolon, we believe flooring should last for a long time — both in how it looks and how it performs. This belief is reflected in five innovations unique to Bolon: Bolon Yarn, Bolon Weave, Bolon Heat, Bolon Base and Back2Bolon.
Together, they create flooring designed for longevity — 100% impervious, built to last and made for circularity. Because a Bolon floor can remain in use for 10–15 years before being recycled, and can be recycled up to 10 times, materials can stay in circulation for more than a century.
For us, recycled materials are not just part of the solution, they are an important part of the future of flooring.

Sustainability is not an add-on for Bolon, it is a part of every step of our process. We have chosen not to have a green collection; instead, all our products contain 68% recycled material and are climate-neutral.
Our PVC is entirely bio-attributed or recycled, and all marble chalk used in our backing is recycled. By transforming industrial waste, plastic waste and recycled marble chalk into beautiful flooring, we create products where recycled materials are not the exception, but the standard.
Everything is designed and produced in Sweden, in our climate-neutral facility powered by 100% renewable energy, including solar power from our roof. Our production technology is developed specifically for Bolon, including our own in-house recycling facility. Our materials are made to be recycled again and again, supported by our take-back programme, Back2Bolon.
Across everything we do, our ambition remains the same: to thrill the world with brave innovations for a sustainable design experience.

Everything begins in Ulricehamn, surrounded by forests and lakes that reflect the calm and clarity of the Swedish landscape. From this small Swedish town, we design and manufacture products used worldwide. Our production is fully rooted here, bringing together advanced technology, craftsmanship and sustainability in a space designed for innovation at the highest level.
For us, Swedishness is reflected in a way of working that combines technical innovation with quality and social responsibility — from how we develop our products to how we care for people and the environment around us.
This premium strategy, with a focus on exclusive design, has allowed us to maintain local manufacturing and honour our Swedish heritage.

The Bolon world is shaped by the Eklund sisters’ lifestyle, interests, and deep-rooted instinct for design, where inspiration is constantly gathered, lived, and transformed into something tangible. At Bolon, we don’t just create design; we live it.
We have helped woven flooring find its place in the world of design. Each of our collections explores texture, colour, and materiality, inspired by both natural and urban environments, as well as impressions from travel, fashion, and contemporary culture.

Collaboration is a key part of our creative process. Over the years, we have invited designers, architects, artists and other creatives to challenge our thinking and explore new possibilities for the material.
From design collections by Missoni, Jean Nouvel, Giulio Cappellini and Patricia Urquiola to artistic collaborations with Snarkitecture and Alexander Ekman, each partnership has brought a unique perspective — expanding the conversation between material, space, culture and creativity.

Our designs can be found around the world, from Europe, the US and Asia to Australia, in hotels, offices, retail spaces, schools, healthcare and cultural environments. In addition, Bolon flooring can be found in gyms, spas and wellness spaces. While the material remains consistent, every space tells its own story.
Together with our local partners, we adapt, integrate, and help define interiors around the globe – including spaces created for some of the world’s most recognised brands, such as Chanel, Armani, Four Seasons Hotels, Google, Nike, Dior and Apple.

Hospitality has always been close to our heart. We believe in the value of bringing people together to share ideas, inspiration, and vision.
At our two guest houses in Ulricehamn, Sweden – Lake House and Urban House – architects, designers, and partners are invited to eat, sleep, and live the Bolon brand. While Lake House draws on Swedish traditions and its natural surroundings, Urban House offers a more contemporary, urban experience. Throughout the houses, existing Bolon collections are mixed with pilot products and development projects, creating an ever-evolving environment for inspiration and creativity.
Hospitality also extends to the table. Our own chefs create exceptional meals, paired with carefully selected wines, making food an essential part of the experience.
In addition to the Bolon brand, the Eklund sisters also own the much-loved boutique hotel Villa La Madonna. Located among the vineyards of Piemonte in the Italian countryside, it reflects their passion for design, hospitality, and human connection – a place to enjoy quiet luxury and slow food.
Velkommen til Bolons verden!
